What dropshipping means in the Pakistani market
Dropshipping is a fulfillment model where a reseller sells products without buying or storing inventory first. When a customer orders, a wholesaler or network partner packs and ships the parcel — often Cash on Delivery (COD) — while the reseller earns the difference between the wholesale base price and the retail price they quoted.
In Pakistan this model exploded because social selling is already native: WhatsApp status, Facebook groups, TikTok clips, and Instagram DMs. Buyers trust people in their circle more than anonymous marketplace sellers, and COD removes the fear of prepaid online shopping.
The three roles you must understand
Confusion between roles is the #1 reason new sellers lose money or blame the wrong party when something goes wrong.
- Wholesaler / supplier — owns stock, sets the base (ex-godown) price, and fulfills or feeds a fulfillment hub.
- Reseller — markets products, owns the customer relationship, sets retail price, and places confirmed orders.
- Network / platform (e.g. AK Dropship) — connects both sides, coordinates couriers, labeling, tracking, and settlements.
Why COD dominates (and what it costs you)
Most end customers still prefer paying at the door. That raises conversion — but it also creates Return-to-Origin (RTO) risk when buyers refuse the parcel, give wrong numbers, or change their mind. Shipping is paid both ways on many failed deliveries, so resellers who skip verification bleed margin fast.
Successful networks treat COD as a process: confirm address, set honest ETAs, route with reliable couriers (TCS, Trax, Leopards, PostEx, M&P and others), and settle profits only after delivery clearance — not when the order is booked.
WhatsApp-first vs marketplace apps
Marketplaces like Daraz optimize for retail buyers browsing a catalog. Dropship networks optimize for B2B social sellers who need media packs, live rates, and fast booking. Apps like Markaz-style platforms can work, but many Pakistani sellers still prefer WhatsApp groups for speed: stock alerts in seconds, fabric videos on demand, and direct operator chat when a courier fails.
AK Dropship runs WhatsApp-first today with a self-service portal on the roadmap. That does not mean “unprofessional” — it means the workflow matches how commerce already happens on the ground.
How money actually moves
Retail COD is collected by the courier. The network reconciles wholesale cost, shipping tariff, and reseller margin. Resellers typically receive payouts on a fixed cycle (often twice weekly) via bank, Raast, JazzCash, or EasyPaisa after successful deliveries. Wholesalers invoice at agreed supply rates for cleared units.
Never assume “I booked = I earned.” In COD dropshipping, booking is a promise; delivery clearance is the cash event.
Getting started without getting burned
Join a verified network, start with categories you understand, confirm every order, and track your own RTO rate by city and SKU. Use the earnings calculator for scenarios only — not guarantees. Read the FAQ on NTN (resellers usually do not need one; wholesalers usually do), then submit the join form or WhatsApp AK Dropship.
